I was mentoring a middle school pupil today and we talked about empathy. At the end of the one to one time, the group of kids and their mentors came back together, for the group leader to host a discussion. Each mentee was asked how they’d treat their workers if they ran a company.
It’s not an easy group dynamic to speak up in, at an already awkward age. My mentee stumbled over their words and then said merely “with respect”. They trailed off, looked embarrassed and said nothing further.
I thought it was a great answer.
They could have said more, but I felt they’d said plenty.
Bravo.
Well they will obviously grow up to be a sympathetic person who is willing to listen. That’s an excellent start.
