On mindset, Carlos Castaneda has written:
“The trick is in what one emphasises. We either make ourselves miserable, or we make ourselves happy. The amount of work is the same.”
In better times I’d be keen to stress this. Right now it feels very much that this is wrong. When the mind is in the grip of depression, with chronic negative thinking apparently inescapable, the amount of work does not feel remotely the same.
Choice remains, nonetheless.
Capacity may be diminished. Happiness may be elusive. But, choice remains.
Emphasise that.
