I was listening to AFP’s podcast today with Laura Jane Grace, and they discussed picking up old half-written songs to finish them off. Succinctly – the magic that could’ve been is rarely to be found again. It’s a way in to finding more magic, but you can’t quite capture what was there at the time.
This feels true to me if I try and finish off a draft or expand on a title I’ve jotted down.
Who I was exactly then has gone. Where I was exactly doesn’t exist any more. The light is different. The mood is different.
None of that is a bad thing – just a recognition that every moment happens but once.
We can create anew, again and again.
Keep going.
