My Dad and I had a fractured relationship that we ran out of time to fix – I never really understood his thoughts and choices, and I still don’t fully.
While running recently I was reflecting on why I feel the way I do, on the events, thought patterns, outcomes and potential futures that feed into my feelings. I joined some dots and recognised that my Dad was very likely in a similar headspace for a lot longer than it would have appeared to me back then. Across the distance in time, understanding suddenly came closer.
Walk (or run) a mile in their shoes, as they say…
A little understanding goes a long way.
