I’ve been reading about how control room design is improved following industrial accidents.
Among the key changes are simplifying warning systems and putting control mechanisms in more than place. When danger is imminent, it must be clear what parts of the system are not in their normal state. It must also be clear how to influence those parts of the system for the better. Trying to figure these out once a crisis is occurring is too late – the operator needs there to have been hard work up front to respond well.
There are clear parallels with mental health. You’re the operator.
How can you prepare?
