The right thing is usually a matter of perspective or opinion. It depends on societal norms as much as individual experience. A developed idea of the right thing, for anybody, requires reflection and a feeling for consequences. That’s not easy to pack in a time frame of now, now now.
As a species we’ve advanced our science and understanding by working together, across boundaries, and over time. But contemporary capitalism thrives on a sense of urgency, highlighting differences, and that we’re pulling apart. Empathy – being able to feel with those around us – is surely the right thing to be working on right now. I don’t mind if it doesn’t sell well and needs time.
